Chardonnay Golf Club, Napa

The view at Chardonnay Golf Club

On my very first morning in the beautiful Napa Valley I was fortunate enough to have secured an early tee-off slot with Gary and Mark who had less than 24 hours previously been spectators at the US Open which is being held at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. We set off just around 7.30am and the heat was already building gently. By the time we had finished 18 holes the sun was high in the sky and the mercury was up near 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Chardonnay, Eagle Vines & The Presidio

Eagle Vines Golf Club - Napa, California

The lack of decent weather here in the UK will shortly cease to be of concern to me as I head over "The Pond" for some rest and relaxation in California. Just under four hours later after encountering strong winds and some early driving rain I posted a net 74 for the round and finished the day in 20th position. I had started extremely well with back to back pars but the remainder of the front nine left much to be desired and I ended up with a shot count of 51 at the turn. The back nine was much better as I settled down and endured whatever the weather could throw at us to finish after 18 holes with a gross score of 93 … [Read more...]

Sheffield Club Jubilee Lunch

Friday 8th June 2012, Tapton Hall, Sheffield. This special lunch offered an opportunity for all members of The Sheffield Club to come together and celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The menu was simple but appealing and the company was as always excellent. We had either Pate or Soup to start with followed by either Poached Salmon or Coronation Chicken. To complete the meal diners were offered either Queen of Puddings or Profiteroles washed down with tea or coffee to conclude. Diners were then invited to stand and sing the National Anthem before the loyal toast was made. A … [Read more...]
